Surface domes have higher consumption of resources, which improve as the planet gets terraformed. The Low-G Engineering tech unlocks the Medium Underground Dome. Underground domes tech will always be third in the Recon and Expansion tech tree.Underground buildings do not require any exotic minerals for construction or maintenance. This mod aims to change the underground from a late-game mechanic to an early-game mechanic, by making the underground a better early option due to less resource requirements and the absence of disasters. End up having 2-3 max for fully developed colony.now back to the mod I really like the concept of exploring the Martian underground and mining asteroids, but don't really like how it was implemented in the game - I can't see the point of building underground when, by the time you can actually do so, expanding the colony on the surface is easier and more beneficial. Outside Ranch is good, it doesn't need Botanists, and I build it if I have dome with bunch of unemployed people. Sometimes building it just for the looks. Heard underground it is good, didn't try yet. Regarding outside farms, Fungal feels least useful, too many workers, too little production. I still need rockets to fill with Rares or for something, no sense ordering them empty. So I always lag behind on food production, but I manage to fill the gaps either by trading with colonies or bringing it from Earth. Personally, I avoid building too many farms, 1-2 in Medium dome and 3 (not in every) Mega dome, but rather concentrate on populating the dome and have useful buildings to balance comfort and production of expensive materials (machine parts/electronics). Food comes pretty cheap, at least 2 rival colonies in all my playthroughs been floating with 4000+ food, so they give me good exchange rate even for stuff like Concrete. If you play with other colonies on the map, you can exchange one of your excess resources for food on the trading pad.
